Sweep panorama of Nex5

Recently I've been very interested in Sony cameras. Don't get me wrong I'm still a Canon family. Last time was a55, this time Nex 5 attracts me. This in only an indirect review on Sony Nex5, and more will follow, probably. But today I just wanted to know more about one of their key functions called sweep panorama.

I like this colour the best. Champagne

The title say it all. The camera itself will take a panorama picture for you. Nex you smartie pants.

Sony uses the high-speed imaging function  from their new Exmor R CMOS sensor to take many shots as the camera is swept through. A motion sensor detects the position of the camera, and once you let go of the shutter, the camera professionally joins the photos together for the best fit so they blend perfectly to form a beautiful wide angle image. So you don't need a tripod, and still there's no stitching errors or motion blurs. For me who is a noob in Photoshop and also bearing a computer that is pretty slow for the programme to run... I think it's very handy feature to have.

Vertical Panorama - fisheye snap!

One trick that I learnt is that if you take vertical panoramic photos, it can give you fisheye snaps. Hey without getting fisheye lens perhaps I can spend ages on Photoshop and make my photos look like one. Or just invest on this camera...? Haha. But then.. one thing leads to another, this is only going to be a small leaky hole for the money. I'll want more lens sooner or later...... mind you I only have two arms and I prefer not to carry two cameras at one go.

I will be visiting Sony store very soon to check out this function as well as the camera. The photos on the reviews look pretty awesome but I wouldn't know unless I try it for myself. Quite exciting!!!

Sony advertises Nex 3 and Nex 5 to have DSLR Quality in your hands while having the benefit of being it ultracompact. Let me explore more into that.....

3 words for you Junghee. Don't get it. It's too head heavy and you will hate the awkard grip. It might as well look like a flat compact without the grip because that little bump of handle does not feel as though it is meant for holding on to, not on my gigantic hand.

Really?? I thought they say it weighs about 220g without the lens, 290g with the standard lens...? Awkward grip huh,I can't have that... OK I take your advice lol Plus I don't think I can betray Canonians...... thanks for the tip! ps is sweep panoramic function as good as what they say?

Only the pancake E 16mm f/2.8 prime lens is 74g, although, I suppose, if you are carrying around Canon DSLR with you, you probably won't need anything but the 16mm. The other two lenses available for the system, E 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 is 214g, and E 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 is 524g. Personally, I don't think there is anything 'compact' about this camera.

As far as the quality goes, I know cameras like these (along with Olympus PEN EP system and Samsung NX100) are in high demands now, especially for those people who want more than just compact, but cannot afford a life saving in DSLR. But the thing is, you know you will always be missing that extra little something, when compared to DSLR, especially Canon DSLR users like yourself. And the difference in quality gets more evident as your conditions get worse. Low light, high contrast, fast moving object, etc etc.

If you want this camera just purely for the panorama, well, it is entirely up to you to decide, but for me, I would invest in a fish eye for your Canon. It's about the same price, you know?

Oh wow they are heavy aren't they! There goes my lacking research... thanks for the tip. Ya everyone's talking about so called mini "DSLR" cameras nowadays that's how I got so interested. I'm getting pretty used to my heavy camera now I should just end this as one of those temp shopping spree. Plus I totally agree with what you are saying esp about the worse conditions. Ya I will definitely miss my Canon. Thanks for the advice btw what camera do u use?

First of all, let me appolozise for my huge mistake on making you change your mind even before trying it out yourself. You should never let anybody else tell you what you should think.

And besides, after saying all that about Sony NEX, if it came across as if I owned one, I am very sorry to disappoint, but I definitely do not own nor use Sony NEX. I just like knowing about these things so I research them online and read forums for personal anecdotes alot.

But, I do have a friend who owns Sony NEX3 and another who owns Samsung NX100. So I do, from time to time, get to play around with them whenever I catch up with my friends, usually over drinks or dinner. It keeps me entertained for hours, and yet, I am happy at the end of the day that I do not have to go home with it.

Myself? I am a Canonian all the way, just like you.
